Position Responsibility

A general practitioner (GP) is responsible for the health and well-being of their local community.

• Receive patients for care in the medical clinic, at hospital or at home
• Maintain detailed and accurate medical records
• Provide medical treatment for a range of illnesses
• Prescribe medication and refer patients to specialists or testing centres
• Coordinate with other health professionals to ensure patients receive consistent advice and care
• Comply with all relevant legislation and medical regulations

Requirements

• Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACCGP): university degree in medicine, one-year internship at a recognised hospital, and complete the AGPT Program
• MBBS or Equivalent
• General or specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia
• General or specialist registration with the AHPRA
• Communication Skills – empathy and compassion
• Competence with medical record-keeping and IT systems

The General Practitioner (GP) will provide comprehensive, patient-centred healthcare that meets the diverse health needs of the community while promoting wellness. This care will be delivered in accordance with the latest evidence-based guidelines, legislative requirements, and the standards set by the relevant professional bodies. The GP will work collaboratively with the Practice Principal, Practice Manager, Nurse Manager, and other members of the medical and administrative teams to ensure high-quality patient care. Additionally, the GP will provide support and mentorship to fellow doctors in the practice. Key Responsibilities Clinical Care • Conduct thorough health assessments, diagnoses, and treatments for a wide range of medical conditions. • Order and review diagnostic tests, ensuring timely follow-up on results. • Refer patients to specialized providers when care needs exceed the GP’s scope. • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure optimal care. • Accurately document all care provided, including patient education and treatment plans, in the medical health record. • Provide home visits when necessary. Professional Development and Standards • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills by fulfilling the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of the RACGP. • Stay informed about relevant legislation and standards impacting General Practice. • Deliver care that respects the cultural beliefs and needs of patients. • Address patient feedback and complaints promptly. • Adhere to the codes of conduct and guidelines of relevant professional bodies (AMA, RACGP, AHPRA). • Recognize personal limits and seek help when overburdened or unwell. • Report any concerns related to patient safety or colleagues’ competence in accordance with mandatory notification guidelines. • Maintain Professional Medical Indemnity Insurance. Collaboration and Teamwork • Work collaboratively with the practice team to provide seamless patient care. • Participate in practice accreditation processes and ensure compliance with relevant standards. • Cooperate on scheduling to meet patient care needs, including arranging coverage during leave periods in coordination with the Practice Manager. Ethical and Professional Practice • Ensure transparency in billing and services provided to Medicare and other funders. • Charge appropriately for services in line with the practice’s billing policy. • Return patient calls promptly and complete documents (e.g., medical reports) in a timely manner. • Send referral letters and follow up on investigative results without delay. • Delegate tasks effectively when absent or on leave to ensure continuity of care. Use of Practice Systems • Effectively use the patient information system, Medical Director (MD), to manage patient records. • Demonstrate knowledge of the practice’s policies and procedures, as outlined in the Tweed Health for Everyone Policy and Procedure Manual. • Use internal email systems for communication and reporting incidents in accordance with practice policies. • Practice medicine in alignment with the values and mission of the practice. Salary • $250,000 plus superannuation, or 70% of billings (whichever is higher). • Contract: Minimum of 24 months. Employee visa sponsorship available for candidates willing to commit to a 48-month contract. • Working Hours: 40 hours per week, with one weekend per month.
